Deadly Microbes in Vegetables

June 1. 2011

Last month in Germany about 200 people became ill with diarrhea and a small number died. The cause was EHEC, also called Enterohemorrhagic E. Coli bacteria, which causes diarrhea that may contain blood and can cause kidney failure.

What is so dangerous about this microbe?

This specific strain of E. coli builds up toxins that attack the kidneys. Normal E. coli in our gut is harmless and part of a healthy flora.

How does one get infected?

It is suspected to be transmitted via vegetables. Many vegetables are fertilized using manure which is a thousand year old procedure in farming and seldom causes problems, unless poor hygiene and inefficient cleaning of the produce takes place. Still, as always in such news reports, they never reveal the overall health condition of the patients who become infected.

What is the therapy?

There is no effective traditional therapy. Antibiotics will actually worsen the condition due to the die off of toxins that can cause severe harm to the kidneys including failure. In most cases the condition will improve over time.

What can we do?

Don't panic and clean your produce well.

We should always keep a good variety of remedies in our tool box.
1. Bacoflor
2. Luvos
3. Seacure
4. Absinthium
5. Florastor
These remedies can very well be used for prevention and strengthening of the gut flora.
